WHAT IS GOING ON AT GG AT THIS TIME OF YEAR?
It is winter, Húsavík is covered with snow and our boats are securely tied in Húsavík harbour or indoors. The daylight is limited but slowly but surely the days are getting longer. The whale watching season starts on April 1st but here are some updates from the GG family.
The maintenance team is in full swing at this time of year, with Fleet Manager Kalli "The Admiral" in charge. Both the oak boats and RIB speedboats need thorough maintenance and we are proud of our nice fleet and how well it is taken care of. The boats will be ready for the season and with safety and comfort in top priority. Other ongoing projects are renovations and improvements in our staff housing and facilities on land. To keep up with the latest developments and innovations in the boat and water sports industry, our dedicated maintenance team is soon attending a large international boat show in Germany, Boot Düsseldorf.
The sales and marketing team is very busy those months. Several travel shows are ahead, which is always nice and a great platform to meet with old colleagues and create new contacts in the tourism industry. The season looks very promising ahead and great demand for Iceland holidays. It is good to see new airlines and international flight connections directly to Akureyri, which opens up many possibilities for the tourism in north Iceland as well as for locals in the area. The rest of the GG team is spread all over the world. Some are back to studies, others are travelling around the globe or doing whale watching and winter tourism work in various destinations, working as fishermen at sea as well as other jobs. Luckily most of our team return year after year which creates a unique atmosphere within the blue family.
It is sure to say, that there is lots going on behind the scenes at this time of year although no tours are offered. But most importantly, we are all looking forward to the upcoming whale watching season and to welcoming our guests aboard again!
