SUMARDAGURINN FYRSTI

Happy summer!

Today we celebrate "Sumardagurinn Fyrsti" - the first day of summer - here in Iceland. Unlike in most other countries, seasons in Iceland are divided into summer and winter only, even though terms as spring and autumn are used.

Folklore says that if winter and summer freeze together (meaning that temperatures have to drop below zero in the night of the last day of winter to the first day of summer), a good summer is coming. According to the weather station "Veðurstofa Íslands", this happened in four different places around Iceland last night. Let's hope this was enough for a nice summer to lie ahead of us!

We cross fingers and fins for some great summer months to come and that Skjálfandi Bay will be full of food for plenty of whales to feast on!

Gleðilegt sumar og takk fyrir veturinn!

Happy summer and thanks for the winter!
