A MONTH OF A MILLION MEMORIES

Humpback leaving for dive

As the last day of June is over, we are happily looking back at an outstanding month: uncountable humpback whales have been spotted throughout the last weeks - in all areas of the bay. The bay seems to be rich in food as we saw these giants of the ocean feeding day after day. In between, we were lucky to see their acrobatic skills again and again as they jumped, lobtailed or flipperslapped. In several occasions, we had a humpback whale get curious about our presence, coming close on its own whilst checking us out.

Along with the humpbacks unusually many blue whales were sighted all month long, often 4 to 5 would be in the bay at once. You can imagine how incredible it is watching the largest animal on earth coming by. As in most years since it was first sighted in 2007, also our beloved blue-fin hybrid paid us several visits, to the delight of our visitors, but probably even more of our crew who knew it from all these years already (you can read more about this special animal in our previous posts).

Last, also white-beaked dolphins kept showing up, often in large numbers. Dolphins are always fun to watch as they zig-zag around, speed through the waves, jump or dive back and forth around the boats.

Whilst we look back on a million memories from the last month, we're excited to dive into July and hope to share the beauty of precious Skjálfandi Bay with all of you as the season continues!

(As our two busiest month are just starting, we adjust our sailing schedule once more by adding multiple departures for our two favourite whale watching excursions. You can find the schedule here.)
