SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY
We at Gentle Giants think that social responsibility is extremely important. Therefore, the company has supported the local community in several ways over the years. While we have had good cooperation with and donations to UNICEF, the local sports club Völsungur, Tónasmiðjan or the local rescue team for years now, below are some of the projects Gentle Giants has actively supported recently:
Local rescue team Garðar
Already throughout the last years we have had a great cooperation with the local rescue team here in Húsavík. Last year, Gentle Giants supported them well for their new rescue boat Villi Páls, which plays an important role for the safety of everyone out at sea here on Skjálfandi Bay – for locals as much as tourists. Recently, as in other years, we supported the team by buying the annual icon to recognise their important role in our community.
Dart Club
Last Friday the newly established dart club in Húsavík had its official opening. Gentle Giants supported them in their foundation, by getting started and creating their facilities. Halli Egils, Gentle Giants’ designer, who is a professional dart player himself, assisted them as well in their journey.
Charity family dance and yoga
In connection to the World Adoption Day on 9th November, Gentle Giants’ assistant manager Daniel and his family and friends hosted a family dance and yoga class to raise money for ‘Illuminate India’. The collected donations support a local children's home in Kolkata, where Daniel originally comes from. Gentle Giants proudly donated to this important project to support children in need.
Tónasmiðjan concerts
Tónasmiðjan is a local charity music club for children and people of all ages where everyone matters; they come together regularly and create music and culture. The club plays a very important role in the community as they host several concerts in Húsavík and its surroundings every year. The profit then goes to support charity organizations for our local community. While Gentle Giants has supported their great work for years, we are currently supporting their upcoming event around Christmas.
