5 THINGS TO DO IN HÚSAVÍK THIS WINTER
Húsavík has plenty to offer and things to experience although the whale watching season is not going on until later this spring. If you're travelling in the area this winter, here is our list of the top 5 activities to enjoy in our charming hometown:
1. Relax and Unwind
Soak in the famous Geosea Geothermal Sea Baths, with stunning views over Skjálfandi Bay and snow-covered mountains. Or visit the local swimming pool, mingle with the locals and hear the latest news.
2. Explore Museums
There are three museums open now: the Húsavík Whale Museum, the Húsavík Museum and the Eurovision Exhibition. Dive into the world of whales, Icelandic history and culture.
3. Hit the Slopes
A short drive from Húsavík lies a winter wonderland. Enjoy family-friendly downhill skiing or glide along lit cross-country trails.
4. Chase the Northern Lights
If the conditions are right, you might catch the breathtaking Aurora Borealis. Find a quiet spot around town and keep your eyes on the sky.
5. Dine on Local Cuisine
From fine dining, lunch buffets to simple takeaways and a cosy brewery taproom, everyone should be able to find things to their liking. Plus, a new restaurant by our friends at the Húsavík Golf Club opens next week.
Húsavík is also the perfect base for exploring the famous Diamond Circle. Just remember to check weather and road conditions at safetravel.is before heading out.
And before we know it, in a few weeks the whale watching season from Húsavík begins again, what has given the town the world-wide recognition as the Whale Capital of Iceland.
Welcome to our hometown!
