OCTOBER SO FAR

Humpback whale diving in front of boat

October, so far, has treated us to some truly beautiful days on the water — crisp air, golden light, and plenty of wildlife encounters to make each trip memorable.

We’ve been especially lucky with the number of humpback whales around these weeks. Most of the days, we encountered several individuals in close proximity to each other, allowing us to show them all to our guests. Oftentimes, one could easily lose count of the number of individuals surfacing in all directions within minutes of arriving at the “whale area.”

In addition, many of the individual whales have been spotted regularly for weeks now, offering wonderful opportunities to observe their unique behaviors and memorise their distinctive tail patterns.

The last two days, however, have brought a sharp change in the weather: Strong winds and even a touch of snow greeted us — reminding us it is October after all.

While we had to rest on land today, we’re hoping to sail back out tomorrow to spend more time with these majestic whales out on Skjálfandi Bay.
