At Gentle Giants, we’re incredibly proud of our diverse team — a mix of local and international staff from all walks of life, united by one shared passion: whales and the ocean. Whether working out at sea or supporting operations on land, every team member brings dedication, energy, and heart to what they do.
Many of our crew members return year after year, reuniting each season with a shared goal: to give our guests an unforgettable whale watching experience and make each year even better than the last — all while creating lifelong memories for both our visitors and ourselves here in Húsavík.
In 2025, our “Blue Family” included over 40 enthusiastic team members representing 13 different nationalities — from captains and guides to ticket sales, assistants, maintenance, and management.
SEASONAL WORK
Whale watching in Iceland is a seasonal adventure. Most of the whale species in Skjálfandi Bay are migratory, spending only part of the year in the North Atlantic. That’s why our whale watching season runs from April 1st to November 30th.
Just as the whales travel between their feeding grounds in Iceland and their breeding areas in (sub-)tropical waters, many of our team members also live a seasonal lifestyle — returning each year and even following the whales to other destinations during the winter months. When everyone gathers again for a new season, the stories shared are as diverse and remarkable as the whales themselves!
