OUTDOOR LEARNING VISIT FROM BORGARHÓLSSKÓLI
Yesterday morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Borgarhólsskóli (Húsavík’s elementary school) to our pier in Húsavík for a special outdoor learning session on board one of our oak boats, Sylvía.
The visit was organized by their teacher, Oddný — who also happens to be the daughter of our captain Guðni, who has been sailing whale watching tours on our oak boats for many years.
Three groups joined us: 1st, 4th, and 6th graders, with students ranging from 6 to 12 years old. They have been learning about outdoor life, the ocean, boats, and whales, so a visit to our vessel was the perfect hands-on experience.
Our team members Sarah and Daniel welcomed the students on board Sylvía and introduced them to the fascinating world of whales and the ocean. Afterwards, the children got a tour of the boat and were offered to discover the different areas of the vessel, such as the wheelhouse and the cabins below deck. The weather was winterly cold but sunny, allowing the kids to roam around the boat for a while and explore every part of it on their own pace.
Of course, no visit would be complete without some refreshments – and so the kids enjoyed some treats before having to head back to school.
It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they discovered more about whales, boats, and the ocean. Days like this remind us how important it is to share knowledge and to inspire the next generation by connecting them with different parts and aspects of the community.
Thank you for visiting us—we loved having you on board!
