WORLD OCEANS DAY BECAME BLUE DAY

Yesterday felt like a Blue Day in Skjálfandi Bay.

Seeing a blue whale is already a privilege. Meeting the largest animal ever known to live on Earth is something that never loses its magic. But yesterday was different.

Yesterday was one of those days when every trip seemed to bring something new. We encountered multiple blue whales, including a mother and calf, a sight that always leaves us speechless. We witnessed behaviors that we rarely get to see, such as rolling and lunge feeding.

Then came a moment none of us will ever forget. A baby blue whale breached.

Blue whales do breach, but it is one of the rarest behaviors to witness. Many whale watchers spend years on the water without ever seeing it happen. To watch a young blue whale launch itself from the ocean was one of those moments that stops time.

The truth is that there are moments out here that are so powerful they bring tears to your eyes. Moments when the beauty, the scale, and the wildness of nature become almost overwhelming. Yesterday was one of those days.

On World Oceans Day, we are feeling especially grateful for these incredible animals. Thank you, Skjálfandi Bay, for every day, every encounter, and every magical moment you give us. Even after all these years, you still find new ways to amaze us!
