FAREWELL, PUFFINS OF LUNDEY — UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
It’s time to wave goodbye to the puffins of Lundey!
Puffins are true ocean wanderers, spending most of the year far out at sea. They only come to land for one very special reason: nesting season, which starts in early April. Over the past few months, we’ve had the joy of watching them waddle, dive, and tend to their little pufflings on Puffin IsIand.
Now, around mid to late August, once the young pufflings have learned to fly, the puffins head back to the open sea, probably their favourite place.
We’ll miss their colorful beaks and comical moves, but their departure is a good sign — it means nesting season went well!
You might still spot a few floating on the waters of Skjálfandi Bay until at least the end of the month, so keep your eyes peeled as we set head out on our whale watching adventures.
IMPORTANT: Our RIB speedboat departing for the "GG2 Big Whale Safari" are no longer stopping at Puffin Island.
Instead, the tours focus on more whale watching instead.
Safe travels, little puffins. Until we meet again next spring!
