THE TAGGED BLUE WHALE

Much to everyone's delight, the blue whale was seen in the bay again last night, and was still around this morning as well!
Last night both the GG1 and GG2 tours watched this giant whale during a sunset and even a beautiful rainbow, making the experience seem almost surreal. The whale was swimming and diving in slow, large circles, likely very busy feeding and allowing everyone on board to have a wonderful look. Many had noticed that there was something slightly different about this whale though: it had something small sticking to its back. It turns out this small device is a tag, attached to the blue whale by Iceland's Marine Research Institute. This tag allows the whales movements to be tracked, so that scientists can learn more about the lives of these interesting and often elusive animals. We hope that this tag will eventually help us understand where this whale is headed when it is not here visiting us in Húsavík.
