A TALE OF PUFFINS AND WHALES

THE POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW

Rainbows are truly magical and there is this air of mystery attached to them. There is so much more to them than just their bright and breath-taking colours. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that we created so many fables and stories about this colourful phenomenon.

AS GRACEFUL AS A MINKE

Skjálfandi Bay is known for the diversity of its wildlife and even though humpback whales are the most common whale to show up here, there is a wide range of other species visiting our bay, too. THE MONTH OF CHANGES

August has to come to an end and as the month has passed by, Skjálfandi Bay has experienced many changes. Whilst days have started to get shorter again, meaning that the night sky and the dancing aurora are throwing their shadows onto the mountains and the sea at nighttime, also many bird species are settling to leave.

OUT OF THE BLUE

Whilst during the past days humpback whales were definitely our stars out in the bay, this morning we were welcomed by some totally unexpected visitors: two blue whales were encountered a short sailing time away from Húsavík’s harbour! Blue whales, the largest mammal that has ever existed on our planet, usually pass by Skjálfandi Bay on their way towards their feeding grounds in the far north.

AND SO THE CURIOSITY CONTINUES...
