PEACEFUL AND SUCCESSFUL WHALE WATCHING

The bay has become very peaceful during the last days. Nearly no wind was blowing, which made the sea flat and the conditions perfect for finding whales. On all our trips several humpback whales, minke whales and harbour porpoises have surrounded the boats.

AMMA SIGGA ADVENTURE

Puffin tours have been offered on our RHIB Amma Sigga (Granny Sigga) for some weeks now, together with other special tours. Our scheduled Big Whale Safari tours on Amma Sigga start on 1st June. Yesterday I had the pleasure of welcoming a group of locals for a real adventure on board Amma Sigga.

LOTS OF WHALES

  Skjálfandi Bay is full of life and our recent sightings have been: many humpback whales, a number of minke whales, groups of white-beaked dolphins and several harbour porpoises.

LUCKY IN ALL WAYS - ESPECIALLY WHALE-WISE

Last week we were extremely lucky during our whale watching trips – not only with the weather, but also whale-wise. Most of the whales decided to spend their weekend in the bay. Maybe also this week.

BLOWS AND TAILS, TAILS AND BLOWS

Completely blue sky, calm waters and blows and tails everywhere for the last two days in Skjálfandi Bay. After the storm, the beams of sun were very welcome by crew and passengers and so was the mirror-like sea.

FIRST DAY OF PUFFINS EXCLUSIVE

Today was our first day of puffin tours for this season. Our RHIB Amma Sigga brought passengers out to Puffin Island and watched The Clowns of the Ocean. From now on we have several scheduled departures daily until the end of August.

STORM IN HÚSAVÍK

Húsavík looks completely white today. The storm started yesterday and since then strong winds, snow and big waves out at sea is all that we have had. We got phone calls from our guests this morning saying they were stuck in Akureyri not being able to make the one hour drive to Húsavík because of the road conditions.

ANIMALS IN GOOD FOOD MOOD

Skjálfandi Bay seems to be very attractive to many whales right now. During the last days we have watched two to five humpback whales on every trip together with up to four minke whales.Four of the humpback whales have already stayed in the bay for a week, two of them even longer.

SIX HUMPBACKS

Yesterday was a big day! Six different humpback whales were seen on our trips, together with three to four minke whales and some harbour porpoises.Huge blows, black backs and beautiful flukes appeared alternately above the surface.
