UNCOMMON VISITORS IN THE BAY

The last days several (or many) humpbacks have been found in the north-west part of the bay. So also this morning when I went out as second guide on Sylvía, which was full at 9:45. When we have such “treasures” in one specific area for a long time, it might be easy to forget the rest of the bay.

Yesterday we had once again a fantastic Big Whale Safari. Although there was no one booked at the beginning, we went out with a completely full Amma Sigga. Stefán was the captain and I was the guide.

TOP CONDITIONS IN SKJÁLFANDI BAY

I just called Captain Bessi to get news from the bay. He, onboard Faldur, was just sliding into harbour again after the 8:45 tour. “This has been another top trip; Five relaxed humpbacks, a minke whale and a nice group of dolphins – all in one tour! And remember the blue whale two days ago.

PUFFINS STILL AROUND - TOURS CONTINUE

There are still lots of puffins on Puffin Island and around in Skjálfandi Bay. Usually they start leaving and head to the open ocean for the winter sometime after the 10th August. As they are still here, we will continue our popular puffin tours GG6 Puffins Exclusive.

SAILING AGAIN - WATCHING HUMPBACKS

Yesterday all trips were cancelled because of crazy weather conditions.It is still not perfect but the boats have left today with adventurous people onboard who have all been well prepared for an adventure.

ADVANTAGE OF STORM

The first storm since June is now going over Húsavík; rain and wind and too high waves. All trips have been cancelled so far today. The forecast says that it will slow down later today so hopefully we can go out whale watching tomorrow morning.

GG CREW EXPERIENCED GRÍMSEY

Grímsey is not far away anymore. Not now when we have our RHIB Amma Sigga which reaches Grímsey in not more than an hour. The GG crew tried this two days ago when celebrating a good season.The weather was amazing and we were doing 45 knots on a sea flat like ice.

BIRTHDAY ON THE BAY

Yesterday was GG's “King” Daniel's birthday. He entered an inviting Skjálfandi Bay at 9:45, celebrating through guiding a full boat of passengers on a whale watching adventure. All the six minkes which have been in the bay the last days were still there, together with two beautiful humpbacks and a group of dolphins.

A BLOOMING SKJÁLFANDI

Even though we have entered August the many and good whales are still around. It has been wavy for two days but the sea was much calmer today. Ann-Sophie has guided three of the seven whale watching tours.
