The following pictures are taken on a calm night at Skjálfandi bay. This Minke Whale was just swimming around and enjoying this magical light the evening sun embellished the sea with. Pics.
For the past days Skjalfandi bay has been crowded with minkes and dolphins.Minke whales can be very inquisitive and entertaining, and on our tours the minkes have often been spy-hopping or examining and swimming calmly by our boat.
Today the crew on Faldur spotted both a group of Humpbacks, and also Blue Whales in Skjálfandi bay. These are great news, and hopefully our gigantic visitors are here to stay for some time, like they did last year.
Photos taken by Gentle Giants staff ..... A great fluke of a humpback - in one of our evening tours this season... A humpback next to our boat Aþena ...
Today was the first day of the new month, July, and it brought good weather to Husavik – light winds, 16° heat, and flat sea.The bay has also been very lively, bringing the majestic humpback and other species to our passengers.
Today a rescue drill was held by the staff onboard Faldur, where the staff simulated and responded to possible emergency situations at sea.Gentle Giants crew sailed out to Skjalfandi Bay where one of the crew member threw himself out into the sea and the instructions of captain Einar were put into practise.
Slysavarnarfélagið Landsbjörg is responsable of giving courses for everyone working on boats by the icelandic coasts, and has trained all our captains and guides to be capable to handle accidents of every kind at sea.
Thanks to Garðar Svavarsson, the “Swedish days” festival is held this week in Husavik, and today free sea-angling tours were offered by Gentle Giants on our boat Aþena.
After a few days of stormy and wet weather here in Skjálfandi area, our captain Arnar Sigurðsson, founder of the first whale watching company in Húsavík, and guide Jesse Flores, finally spotted Humpback whales again after two days of absence! Weather conditions have not been completely favourable these past few days but that has not stopped our crew from bringing passenger within arms length of the humpbacks! Despite the weather, our brave passengers were fully satisfied with their whale watching journey into Skjalfandi bay.
