Our journey towards modernizing our fleet continues. Last week, our most experienced RIB speedboat Amma Kibba got a special upgrade when two brand-new engines were installed into the boat. Since joining our fleet as a new vessel in 2013, Amma Kibba has sailed with thousands of happy passengers on unforgettable whale watching and seafaring adventures in Skjálfandi Bay.

The entire engine replacement was carried out in Vargsnes, our maintenance workshop in Húsavík, under the leadership of our skilled head RIB captain Sverrir, and his father, fleet manager Kalli. The engine room was fully emptied, deep-cleaned and then given a complete makeover of every single part to make it all top-modern.

This upgrade follows last year's installation of a brand-new, eco-friendly engine in our largest boat, Sylvía, which has made her consume 75% less fuel and 50% more silent. Now with the average age of our fleet's engines at just six years, we are proud to continue this path towards a greener future for our passengers, the environment and of course, the beloved whales.

Amma is the Icelandic word for grandmother and since all our speedboats are named after the mother, grandmothers and great grandmother of our CEO Stefán Guðmundsson, we like to call these beautiful boats "the fastest grannies in the world".
