After experience very cold northern climate for the past days, the sun is shining again in Skjalfandi Bay. Despite cold and wavy trips, the crew of Faldur and Sylvia has spotted big animals in the bay; Blue whales, up to five at the time, Humpback whales in close distance and jumping, and other smaller species, in small and large groups.
For some people one or two whale watching tours are not enough. Some people join many tours with us to see the giants of Skjalfandi Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Domeratzki from Germany are visiting Iceland for their first time.
The blue whales we had in the bay (see our article from 4th June), unfortunately did not stay here for long. After they left the bay we had a few days of minke whales, dolphins and harbour porpoises – it seemed that the larger whales had moved further out of the bay.
This morning the first Blue Whales of the season were spotted by our captain Bessi on board Faldur. We started our trip going south west and after 45 minutes approx. a difficult Minke whale was spotted.
This morning something amazing and totally unexpected happened on our morning trip. Weather conditions were not the nicest ones for our passengers - cold, wind, rain and choppy sea – but they were all very positive and optimistic and wanted to see some whales.
The last days have been absolutely fantastic! Weather conditions and whale sightings have been very good. This is what the crew onboard Faldur had to say about their tours today: “We headed out to Skjalfandi Bay with enthusiastic whale watchers.
The 13:15 tour today started quite normal. Guide Daniel was introducing to passengers onboard Faldur the safety onboard and the most common whales. Captain Alli was heading towards the area they had spotted humpbacks, a minke whale and harbour porpoises in the morning.
