This morning passengers aboard Faldur experienced a really exciting moment: they were lucky to observe the first humpback whale that has returned to Skjálfandibay! Humpbacks are migrating whales coming from the warmer waters of the south such as the Caribbean.
The first week of April has passed quickly. Within these days we were able to spot four different species of whales starting from the smallest one, the harbour porpoise, along white-beaked dolphins and a minke whale through to the largest animal existing: the blue whale! Totally unexpected, the blue whale showed up during our first whale watching trip of the season.
All of us were counting down to today that Faldur would leave the harbour for the first time of the season in search for whales. But none of us would ever have expected what an unforgettable experience each of us would bring home after the season’s first tour.
Our crew was lucky enough to find a blue whale today, on the first tour of the year - only an hour after leaving the harbour. This is extremely rare so early in the season! More updates coming soon.
It is less than two weeks left until our first whale watching tour on 1st April. Spring has now arrived with the first European golden plover of the year, which was seen in the east of Iceland yesterday.
We are counting down the days until a new season starts in a month from now – on April 1st.The first tour will depart at 9:45 from Húsavík harbour. Usually that is one of the year’s most exciting trips, as it was so long since we sailed and we have no clue what will meet us out there.
A lot of things are going on at Gentle Giants even at this time of year when our boats are not leaving harbour. One important sales- and marketing event is the annual Mid-Atlantic Tradeshow, which Gentle Giants attended last weekend.
A new year has started, with new opportunities and yet another exciting whale watching season ahead. In less than three months from now, our first tour of 2015 will leave Húsavík harbour. Preparations are in full swing.
All our information is now updated for the 2015 season. Surf the site to get familiar with Gentle Giants' tours, timetables and prices, or skim through our sales manual for all information in one place.
