BIG WHALE SAFARI IS BACK 2015

From tomorrow, 1st of May, our “GG2 Big Whale Safari” starts to go out again! Departure is daily at 12:30 from 1st ‘till 14th of May. From 15th of May we will add a second departure at 16:00! On board our RIBs you have an even greater chance to encounter the gentle giants of Skjálfandibay: Due to the speed our RIBs are able to cover a much bigger area in search for whales.

FIRST DAY OF SUMMER

In Iceland summer has started today on the 23rd of April. Icelanders celebrate “Sumardagurinn fyrsti” the first day of summer and wish each other a “happy summer” (Gleðilegt sumar)! Having a look outside the window it doesn’t look like summer at all, though.

TWO DAILY DEPARTURES

From tomorrow, the 16th of April, we run two “GG1 Whale Watching”-tours scheduled daily at 9:45 and 13:15. Even better: for the next few days we will offer these tours on our RIB boat Amma Kibba! FIRST HUMPBACK WHALE SPOTTED

This morning passengers aboard Faldur experienced a really exciting moment: they were lucky to observe the first humpback whale that has returned to Skjálfandibay! Humpbacks are migrating whales coming from the warmer waters of the south such as the Caribbean.

FOUR SPECIES WITHIN FIRST WEEK

The first week of April has passed quickly. Within these days we were able to spot four different species of whales starting from the smallest one, the harbour porpoise, along white-beaked dolphins and a minke whale through to the largest animal existing: the blue whale! Totally unexpected, the blue whale showed up during our first whale watching trip of the season.

All of us were counting down to today that Faldur would leave the harbour for the first time of the season in search for whales. But none of us would ever have expected what an unforgettable experience each of us would bring home after the season’s first tour.

BREAKING NEWS - BLUE WHALE ON FIRST TOUR

Our crew was lucky enough to find a blue whale today, on the first tour of the year - only an hour after leaving the harbour.This is extremely rare so early in the season! More updates coming soon.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN 2015

It is less than two weeks left until our first whale watching tour on 1st April. Spring has now arrived with the first European golden plover of the year, which was seen in the east of Iceland yesterday.
