The 2006 start of the season for Gentle Giants has been thus far perfect! Our success rate for spotting whales has been 100%, thanks to the 5 humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and the endless amount of seasonal seabirds within Skjálfandi Bay.
This morning Gentle Giants’s boat FALDUR sailed out to Skjálfandi Bay for the first time this season in the search of whales, with a large group from Germany. Weather conditions were excellent – bright sunshine and very light winds.
Researching Sea Birds in Mánár IslandsOn Wednesday last week the Náttúrustofa (North East Iceland Nature Centre) went for a research tour to Mánár islands.
This evening some of Gentle Giants crew members noticed that humpbacks had arrived into Skjálfandi Bay. Of course those crew members sailed out to Skjálfandi Bay to greet those magnificent animals. Just outside Husavik harbour a few big spouts were seen.
The whale watching season is approaching fast and preparation for the summer is in full swing.Celebrating its fifth year in wild business and natural happiness, Gentle Giants places rich emphasis on doing the best possible to fit the needs of all travellers coming to Husavik in search for adventure and memorable experiences in the wild nature of Iceland, offering great experienced staff & fully licensed boats.
The major change last year was a new boat in the company’s fleet. AÞENA ÞH was added to Gentle Giants fleet in the start of the season. Aþena, built in the year 2000 in Hafnarfjordur, and rebuilt in 2005 especially for Gentle Giants, made the ideal Whale Watching - and sea-angling boat, with all the comfort of a passenger boat.
Gentle Giants whale watching season 2005 has come to and end.We have had a great summer and would like to thank our guests especially for visiting us. The weather has been rather tough to deal with, but that’s nature - mostly unpredictable.
Our season is coming to an end, and now in Septeber we reduce our daily trips down to one, at 13:15. Last days have been quite good, weather has been improving and Minkes and Humpbacks have been spotted on every tour.
This morning our guide Jesse Flores shot some pictures of the Humpback that has stuck around Skjálfandi bay despite the storm we had for four days. This humpbak is easily recognized by the bumps on it´s back, behind it´s blowhole, and this morning it was very at ease while sliding with our boat Faldur.
