Also yesterday and today we were lucky to encounter the big BLUE WHALE during our „GG1 Whale Watching“ tour which departs daily at 9:45 in the morning. Blue whales are the largest, but also heaviest animals on earth as they can grow more than 30 metres in length whilst weighing about 200 tons.
After a great season start two days ago with a blue whale delightening the tour, also yesterday’s and today‘s tour continued to be successful: The blue whale is still in the bay and was sighted on all departures so far.
With twenty two passengers on board our first tour of the season has left the harbour as scheduled today morning at 9:45.
Season start is just around the corner! Our first whale watching tour of the year is scheduled from Húsavík on Saturday April 1st at 9:45. Due to high demand, we will also offer an extra departure that day at 13:15. Bookings in advance are recommended.

Our whale watching season starts on April 1st and we are all looking forward to it! Even though we are not sailing during the darkest winter period, there is still lots going on at Gentle Giants and our dedicated team is busy preparing for the upcoming season.
Imagine seeing a 25-40-ton humpback whale breaching out the water. It is an impressive sight which our passengers and crew are privileged to witness regularly. But what makes those giant mammals breach? Scientists have never really known why although many theories have been suggested.
Time flies and now it is only one month to season start. Our first whale watching tour of the year is scheduled on April 1st at 09:45, when our boat Sylvía will leave Húsavík harbour and head out to Skjálfandi Bay in search of the giants of the sea.
