Another beautiful day comes to an end. Today’s tours were blessed with sunshine and heat. Most likely it was the warmest day of this year’s summer so far. Even in the evening, when the sun was setting behind the Cheek Mountains, it didn’t really cool down but a warm breeze was there instead.
The first boats this morning had found a humpback whale short after they left. Being on the second oak boat to leave the harbour, we decided to catch up with them to get a look at this whale, too. But short before we reached the area a minke showed up out of the sudden.

Today another bue whale has shown up in the bay. One of the RIBs found the huge mammal in the early morning. The whale was swimming close to the mountains and therefore, it was not difficult for the oak boats to follow.
Today the last 8pm „GG1 Whale Watching“ - tour on our oak boat Sylvía has departed – at least for this year’s season. Evening trips are special for many reasons: First of all one gets to see the beautiful colours of the evening sun.
Today has been an awesome day out at sea. First of all the weather could not have been better, it was simply amazing. Once we had left the harbour we realized that also the sea was flat as a mirror. The mountains were reflecting on the surface and above Húsavík the colours of the sunrise hadn’t disappeared, yet.
The past days have been really busy. Besides the “GG1 Whale Watching” and the “GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins” many different tours were departing from Húsavík harbour.
Our RIB Amma Sigga is right now watching a Blue Whale in the bay! It is the first Blue Whale since the beginning of July. Blue Whales usually pass Skjálfandibay in the end of May and throughout June.
Yesterday and the day before the humpback whales continued their pretty acrobatic behaviour: they breached, rolled over, approached the boats many times, two swam in a pair, one was seen surrounded by some playful dolphins.
Since quite a while one humpback hangs out in the southern part of the bay. Most of the times it is very busy with feeding. Often it breaks the surface with its mouth still open and small fish jumping away to all sides, other times it seems to jump halfway out of the water when catching its prey.
