The blue whales seem to have left the bay but hopefully they will arrive soon again. It has been very nice having those biggest mammals in our bay and according to a whale specialist in Husavik, 14 different individual blue whales have been spotted in the bay since 7th June.
Skjálfandi is full of whales today ! On the last trip at least 6 Blue whales, 4 Humpbacks and a group of dolphins have been spotted. Blows and flukes everywhere. When it is like this crew has to decide which ones to have a look at.
The festival continues … all around are whales! This morning I had the morning tour together with Lia and both of us were speechless after the tour. We headed out to Skjalfandi Bay with captain Alli in charge.
I can see a blow......................... ...........a big blow........ ........wow......what a BLOW............it’s the blow of a Blue....
It's always exciting to spot a Blue Whale - the largest animal on earth. First the high powerful blow in the distance, visible from very far away. Then, when close, the big blowholes, the back, the small dorsal fin, the fluke (only sometimes) .
Today was a fantastic day out on Skjalfandi Bay. A really perfect day with the whales! It all started this morning when both of us headed out on Sylvia with a special group. Weather conditions were fantastic, light winds and good sea conditions.
During the last days we had been mainly spotting Minke whales and dolphins in the bay. It had been more than one week since we hadn't seen any Humpbacks although we had several of them in May.
